Easter Surprise

It has been a long week to say the least. Had an amazing Easter miracle. For those of you who have been following my Facebook posts about Spicy Carolina, there is some news.

Spicy Carolina is a full on feral female who was struck by a car, had a hip injury. Some thought she was paralyzed, but turns out she just needed some rest and time to heal.

Another rescuer was gonna pick her up to euthanize her - just because she was feral and injured. That person made no effort to even examine Spicy. About 6 weeks ago I picked her up and gave her a space to rest and heal.

Turns out miracle # 1 - she was pregnant when she was hit by the car. We had zero idea of this until Easter morning when she gave birth to 4 healthy, full term kittens. She wanted no part of them though. She had cleaned them up but made no effort to feed them or keep them warm. She acted like she was afraid of them.

I took them, got them warm and fed. Miracle # 2 - all 4 babes are hanging in there! The fact she gave birth with the hip injury - which is doing much better - is a miracle and the fact I found the kittens in time is also a miracle.

So, for those who have ever had neonates, every 2 hours feeding them, making them potty, making sure they are clean and warm..... It is exhausting but rewarding. Since they are syringe fed babies, it takes a skilled mama to handle this and thus I tote the babes everywhere I go. Some places do not permit them thus I have had to miss appointments, reschedule them or just not be able to go to them.

I am glad the babes are doing great, but they will not be out of the woods for at least another week. Their care schedule requires constant monitoring and this litter is quite demanding, especially during the day.

All four look different which makes telling them apart so much easier. I believe we have 2 boys and 2 girls, I will check again in the morning.

Now, I gotta go feed the babes, make sure they are snuggled for a bit and grab a cat nap. I will deal with the missed appointments once these littles are old enough to stay with a kitten sitter. But for now, the neonate care requires me to handle them since there are few available who can handle such littles.
