Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf, suspect & victim
Apparently the incident was caught on video - but the public has yet to see the video footage...
MY personal views prior to seeing the video, views may change once the footage is released....
1. Karmelo was wearing the opposing teams gear and sitting under Austin's teams gazebo. Karmelo was NOT a team member and anyone attending such events knows these are for team members only.
2. Austin asked Karmelo to leave, Karmelo refused. We do not know for sure what happened next beyond an altercation in which Karmelo used a knife to stab Austin in the heart.
3. Karmelo brought a KNIFE onto school grounds, during a school event. Karmelo then stabbed an unarmed teenager.
4. Karmelo then ran away from the scene rather than remaining to render aid to the victim.
5. Karmelo made statements that he did it, in a bragging manner upon being confronted by officers.
These are the current things being said, backed up by facts SO FAR.
So, Karmelo had to be expecting a confrontation because he brought a knife with him to this event. That IS premeditation. Whether he expected it from Anthony or someone else, the fact he was armed with a knife meant he expected something to go down.
Anthony is said to have grabbed Karmelo's backpack and MAYBE touched / pushed Karmelo - waiting on the video to confirm this. However, this does not rise to the level of pulling out a knife to fatally stab someone.
If it had been the other way around it would be called a hate crime and how the "evil white boy" killed an unarmed black boy - but it isn't. When will we, as a nation, deal with the anger issues of this generation who constantly resort to this type of violence?
Why is it a hate crime one way but not the other????
My personal feelings are that Karmelo was in the wrong for bringing a knife in the first place. We all know weapons are NOT permitted on school grounds - Karmelo knew this but apparently felt rules do not apply to him. Had Karmelo followed the rules then Anthony would still be alive. It really is that simple.
Karmelo broke the rules, Karmelo stabbed and killed Anthony. Karmelo chose to bring a knife against the rules. THAT is what caused this situation.
Regardless of Anthony's actions, if Karmelo had followed rules no knife would have come into play.
It is time for proper accountability. When someone breaks the rules and brings a weapon to a school they expect an altercation, and with the weapon they PLAN to win that altercation.
I am not on board with the "self defense" defense.... Just because someone tries to make you leave an area you are not supposed to be in - does NOT give you a right to whip out a deadly weapon and take their life.
100% premeditation because Karmelo brought a knife to a place he wasn't supposed to have weapons.
I will wait for the video to properly assess all behaviors, but I wanted to voice my opinion on the fact Karmelo was in the wrong from the start. Who did he bring the knife for? Was he just itching for an altercation and excuse to use the knife to appear cool? Did he do it to help his family get rich via online means?
Still too many unanswered questions, and too many rumors. Facts are sparse and this is a rapidly developing story.
Just my feelings and observations on this matter to date.... This may change once the video of the incident is released, if it is ever released.
