The Dangers
of Rat Poison
People have
no idea how far reaching simply putting rat / mouse poison out actually is. All
they see is a rodent problem they want a solution for. Sadly, thousands of pets
DIE every year from eating those poisoned rodents….. One such kitty from our
rescue became a victim last night because of it….. Marshall was in his forever
home and doing amazing, until a poisoned rat came into his home and he caught
it….. Marshall ate it and instantly became sick. Marshall was rushed to the
emergency vet last night where he had to be euthanized because he could not
recover from being poisoned.
Note –
Marshall was a 100% indoor kitty. The poisoned rodent came into HIS home, not
the other way around. Meaning, the poisoned rodent ate somewhere else then came
into Marshall’s home to die. Marshall should have been safe, but a neighbor
decided to put out rodent poison that is UNSAFE for other animals……Marshall is
DEAD because a neighbor had no concern for other people’s pets.

There are so
many other options to control rodents, but this neighbor obviously did not
think when putting out a very toxic substance….. Not only will this type of
poison kill the rodents, it will also kill anything that ingests the poisoned
rodent…… It can, and does, create a chain reaction of death. But, this neighbor
had zero care about that.
The sad
reality of what this type of poisoning does to an animal is sickening. They
will basically bleed out internally long BEFORE showing any symptoms of being
sick. By the time symptoms show it is usually too late to save them. It is a
SLOW and PAIINFUL death to animals subjected to this type of poisoning.

The NIH has
a nice article with tons of statistics on this matter, it is alarmingly tragic.

Now, I know
many of you will not bother to check out the links. That is your choice. I put
them here to help educate the twatwaffle who poisoned a happy, healthy kitty
who was safe inside his furever home. I want them to know exactly what they put
Marshall through and how I wish it had been them instead. Marshall did not
deserve this death at all.
We all
understand this winter weather has caused the rodent population to seek better
shelter. It has caused them to appear inside homes that have never seen rodents
before. This is NOT an excuse to be careless and put out toxic poisons that
cause a chain reaction of death. Please use humane traps, live traps or
solutions that do NOT involve such toxic poisons.
Believe it
or not, live trapping could provide a small side income for you by offering the
rodents to people who have snakes. YES, pet snakes eat wild rodents. So,
instead of killing innocent pets why not trap the rodents and offer them to
snake owners? Many snake owners may even have traps they can loan to you for
this purpose!!!!
I am livid
right now that a kitten I hand raised is now DEAD because someone chose to
poison rodents…… I must go for now, before I really say something that does get
me a FB suspension….. But to the asshat that poisoned Marshall YOU are 100%
responsible for his vet bill and I suggest you contact me or his forever mama
to work out how to pay for that!!!!!
